Introduction

The Background and Overview of the Grantley Prescod Memorial Primary

School

The Grantley Prescod Memorial Primary School, formerly called The Pine Primary School is located at St. Barnabas, St. Michael, in Barbados. It is a co-educational institution comprising  a teaching staff of twenty-four , a roll of two hundred and thirty-seven students and the principal.  Added to this complement are the ancillary staff members. These are the clerk typist, three school meals servers, three janitors, one security guard, three monitors and a watchman.

In 2002, the school building was renovated. A new Administrative block was added along with four classrooms, an equipped technology lab and a Management Information Systems (MIS) room. These additions were made under the Education Technology Programme. This programme was focused on developing a digital infrastructure, developing staff’s digital literacy and identifying and training digital leaders in order to implement the teaching and learning of technology at the school. As a part of the initiative, five computer tables with desktop computers were placed in each classroom and a large television set was also mounted on a wall in each classroom.

In 2019, the lone prefabricated building was converted into an Inclusion Unit. It houses two classrooms. Students with learning challenges are taught in this Inclusion Unit.
